    Commercial Mortgage Solutions

    Vice Chairman

    Mobile: 07836 681722

It’s frightening to say but I have been involved in the commercial mortgage market  both working for a Lender and as a broker for over 25 years…I know I don’t look that old but believe me when I say I feel it!!

I am proud to say that I became a member of the Association in 1993 and have witnessed firsthand the challenges the Association has faced over that period.

I have been a Director of the NACFB since 2009 with responsibility for the review and implementation of the Association’s Training and Education and Compliance programme.  In addition I am past Chair of the Association Compliance Committee.

We have all seen vast changes in the commercial broking landscape over the last decade and many of us have weathered the storm and are hopefully coming out the other side. I strongly believe in looking forward as there is little you can do about the past apart from learning and building on your experiences. I am a strong believer in treating commercial customers fairly and am very passionate about the role of independent brokers in the market place and the recognition of the Association’s members experience and competency in the commercial mortgage arena. I will do everything to ensure that the Association’s members have the skills, information and tools to deliver correct and compliant information to their customers.

Married to Julie, we have three young adults which are the light of my life. A very keen golfer I try to play on a regular basis with customers and friends although sometimes work gets in the way!!

  • Alan Ellison

    Business Credit Solutions Ltd

    Serving Director

My career in the finance industry has spanned over 40 years (I started at a very young age).

My initiation into the finance world was working for a privately-owned consumer finance company; following which I graduated to work in all aspects of asset finance, HP, leasing, contract hire and block discounting – with both private and national finance companies.

For several years, I was a manager with a high street bank, where I gained experience and insight into more aspects of financing, specialising in new business development and underwriting. The time spent in this sector gave me invaluable skills in negotiation and the management of customer and business expectations.

In 1993, with the bank changing the way it did business, I felt it was time to branch out on my own and pursue my ambition of creating my own brokerage business. I knew I had the knowledge and experience to help and guide businesses in need of finance through the minefields and pitfalls they would encounter.

Over the years, the brokerage has grown and now specialises in all aspects of Commercial Finance and Regulated Mortgages (including Equity Release). I am personally an appointed representative of a mortgage network and a member of the Equity Release Council.

I have been married to my wife Jean for 42 years (child bridegroom). If asked, we would both say that our main hobby is golf. However the dust on the golf clubs, which seem to be permanently stood at the back of the garage, prove the reality that our busy active working schedules take precedence and that our golf membership works our very expensive for that one round of golf we manage to squeeze in each year.

  • Ray Wells

    Chenalfame Ltd

HR Director, International Relations - co-opted

I have been involved in asset finance for over 30 years (doesn’t time fly when you’re enjoying yourself !), starting as a junior representative at Lloyds & Scottish Finance in Guildford. Promotion led me to managerial roles at their Chiswick & Watford branches. After gained a valuable experience in all aspects of commercial finance here, I wanted to venture abroad and obtain International experience. I moved to a Finance Trading House in Copenhagen, Denmark as an account manager covering Sweden and Finland. One of our clients was based inside the Arctic Circle where the temperature was -40C on one of my visits! At least we didn’t have to wear suits on those occasions.

I returned to the UK in the 80’s and started my own brokerage Co. – Chenalfame Ltd in West London. More than ten years ago we formed an alliance with First for Business Ltd which now offers a much wider range of skills and advisory services.

Being an ageing ‘rocker’ at heart, I enjoy motor bikes & blues music with some attempt at playing guitar and the occasional round of golf in between.

  • Ralph Black

    Commercial Finance Brokers (UK) Ltd

I have been a commercial broker since 2008 when I set up CFB(UK) with my business partner. We cover most types of finance, although property is the most significant.

Prior to CFB I was a regulatory& training consultant working with large banks & insurers helping them understand how to comply with FSMA regulations and deal with FOS complaints. I can bring this knowledge of regulators & regulation to bear for the benefit of the NACFB.

  • David Sampson

    Omega Commercial Solutions Ltd

    Training & Education, Membership Growth

I fell into banking almost accidentally in 1984, having left school with the most desirable ‘A’ levels for a career in finance; chemistry and geography!

I switched to commercial banking in 1988, and helped set up one of the Bank’s first dedicated commercial centres, managing and lending to SME’s, large corporates and professionals nationally, in the days before segregation and geographical restrictions.

After some 15 years of happiness and job satisfaction (yes really!) things had changed to a point where the Bank seemed more focussed on matters other than lending. Co-incidentally around that time an old colleague introduced me to the MD at Omega, which gave me the opportunity to get back to proper lending again. After 7 years as a broker, the latter couple of years also including some operational duties, I was asked to formally become Operations Director which has been my role now for almost 2 years. My main responsibilities relate to the day to day running of the business, which includes discussing cases with the other brokers to assist where I can and also maintaining our many close lender relationships. Truth be told I do still enjoy getting my hands dirty helping businesses obtain much needed funding, and take every opportunity to do just that when time allows.
