    Paul is now in his tenth year on the board of the NACFB, and his sixth as Chair.

    With 30 years in accountancy practice, industry and latterly in his own Commercial Finance practice; including time spent in a number of key board level positions, Paul has developed a real understanding of the SME market. He provides independence, objectivity and integrity, and specialises in business turnarounds.

    Paul founded Goodman Corporate Finance in 2006. The company offers an extensive range of individually tailored finance solutions including commercial and investment mortgages; asset, invoice, development or short term finance; all status lending; factoring; and block discounting.

    It’s frightening to say but I have been involved in the commercial mortgage market  both working for a Lender and as a broker for over 25 years… I know I don’t look that old but believe me when I say I feel it!

    I am proud to say that I became a member of the Association in 1993 and have witnessed firsthand the challenges the Association has faced over that period.

    I have been a Director of the NACFB since 2009 with responsibility for the review and implementation of the Association’s Training and Education and Compliance programme.  In addition I am past Chair of the Association Compliance Committee.

    Multi-award-winning, Steve is a true expert in sourcing finance for property investors having won both Complex Buy to Let Broker of the Year 2017 (British Specialist Lending Awards) and Buy to Let Broker of the Year 2012 (British Mortgage Awards).

    Appointed MD of Mortgages for Business on August 1st 2018, Steve is responsible for driving the business forward on a daily basis.

    Having learned his trade with the high street banks, Phil Gray forged a passion for Commercial Finance and in 2006 launched Watts Commercial Finance Ltd. Since then, he has steered the business through an eventful and successful period whilst gaining deserved recognition from the industry for over a decade’s work. In 2015, Phil was recognised with a ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award from Lloyds Bank for his services and commitment to commercial finance. Watts Commercial Finance accolades include the Business Moneyfacts ‘Commercial Mortgage Introducer of the Year’ and Bridging & Commercial ‘Commercial Broker of the Year’.

  • David Sampson

    David has a strong background of over 20 years in mainstream commercial finance within the Banking world and subsequently after 7 years as a broker was asked in 2011 to formally become a Director at Omega Commercial Solutions Ltd. His main responsibilities relate to the day to day running of the business, but also placing deals and discussing cases with the broker team to assist where he can, and also maintaining their many close lender relationships. David still very much enjoys getting his hands dirty helping businesses obtain much needed funding, and takes every opportunity to do just that when time allows.

    A broker since 2004, Geoff has witnessed the many significant changes and events that have occurred in both the economy and our industry since that time. He has been an NACFB Board member for the last three years and remains passionate about ensuring that the Association is structured, resourced and focused on providing positive, practical support and guidance to all Members whatever their size and wherever they are located in the UK. In the uncertain economic and regulatory times that we all face this will remain a key priority on the NACFB  Board. 

  • Mike Geddes

    Mike started his career in finance in 1993 with Barclays Mercantile before moving to Lloyds TSB some 4 years later, from there he moved to Abbey National in 2001 (later ING Lease ) and helped them develop their Operating Lease product. In 2006, Mike joined Asset Finance Solutions (UK) Limited. Over the last 6 years his main focus has been building their compliance function and ensuring that they are meeting the expectations of the various regulators they deal with.

    A Board level executive, with over 40-years extensive commercial experience in financial services at Board level as well as working in the social enterprise and public health sectors. Mike’s core value proposition in his financial services careers includes: strong business profit and delivery track record, strategic planning and implementation, clear lateral thinker, strong creative and innovator, leadership, advocacy, project management and stakeholder management skills. His interests include music, travel and Crystal Palace FC.

    Dave has worked for NatWest for over 30 years , 25 of
    which in SME lending. The things Dave likes most
    about the role is supporting Brokers grow their
    businesses but seeing the thousands of customers
    NatWest have helped realise their dreams but also
    working with the best BDMs in the industry. Dave joined the NACFB Board of Directors in January 2019 to offer invaluable insight from a lender perspective. 

  • Martine Catton

    Catalyst Business Finance

    Patron Director

    Martine started her career in banking over 20 years ago and has extensive experience in invoice finance and SME banking with senior roles in Barclays, Hitachi and challenger bank Aldermore. Her role at Catalyst is to create and deliver the long term strategy of the business by creating innovative products which meet the needs of clients and intermediaries. Martine joined the NACFB Board of Directors in January 2019 to offer invaluable insight from a lender perspective.  

  • David Newborough

    Ashgates Corporate Services Ltd

    Finance Director

    Working in professional practice since 1995 and Head of Audit and Business Services at Ashgates, David joined the NACFB in January 2015 to address the handling of the Association’s finances.

    He is also a Director at Ashgates Corporate Services Ltd.

  • Russell Lewis

    Specialist Director

    Russell spent 20 years as an Officer in the Parachute Regiment and has served in a variety of challenging theatres including Northern Ireland, Kosovo and Iraq. In 2009 Russell was awarded a Military Cross for leadership and gallantry in Afghanistan.

    Russell currently deliver leadership and coaching training to multi national corporations and charitable organisations. Russell joined the NACFB Board of Directors in 2019 to offer invaluable insight and strategy as somewhat of an outsider to the commercial finance sector. 

  • Norman Chambers


    Managing Director

    Norman joined the NACFB in early 2014 as the Deputy CEO. Before coming to the NACFB he accumulated over thirty years’  banking experience undertaking a number of senior manager roles within NatWest & RBS. His last roles were as a Regional Director, leading large teams to deliver performance across a range of measures, and at RBS where he worked in a team as a Senior Implementation Director under the guidance of the executive in helping carve out the RBS Businesses under the EU directive.

  • Graham Toy


    Graham Toy is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Association of Commercial Finance Brokers (NACFB). Graham has spent over 30 years in the commercial lending industry working for Barclays, Santander and Yorkshire Building Society. He has experience working as a lender in both sales and risk for clearing banks and a mutual. He is also a Non-executive Director of the Charities Aid Foundation Bank.
