NACFB meets Conservatives for talks on the future of commercial finance

10th September 2008

The National Association of Commercial Finance Brokers (NACFB) has held a round table event with the Shadow Minster for the Treasury, Mark Hoban MP, and the Conservative Business Relations Chairman for the South East, Patrick Frederick, to discuss the future of the financial services industry. Both broker members and the Chief executive of the NACFB met with Mr. Hoban and Mr. Frederick at Solent University in Southampton to discuss the concerns of the broker community and the potential impact of the current market on the SME.

Chief Executive of the NACFB Adam Tyler, said: “The SME is the acknowledged powerhouse of the UK economy; it is a huge part of the driving force behind UK PLC. Current market conditions mean that some of these businesses are stagnating because of their lack of access to finance which would allow them to grow. Without the regenerative powers of these businesses influencing the recovery of the rest of the economy, the return to market health will be a long, slow and painful process.”

“Brokers are on the front line of business: between the lenders and the business community. They are vital in oiling the wheels of the financial transactions which keep SMEs active and trading. They fear intrusive, expensive and unnecessary centralised regulation, a point we made to the Conservative party representatives present. As the possible party of future Government, we look forward to working with them in the future.”

Mark Hoban MP said: “Commercial finance brokers are finding it tough at the moment. They and their customers look to the Government for support. But the Government can't help because Gordon Brown failed to prepare for a rainy day when the sun was shining. Businesses are increasingly looking towards the Conservatives to take the tough long term decisions needed to make our economy more competitive.”
